Medical weight loss means a clinician guides your plan, starting with your health, not a diet trend. At MD Care, that begins with a full intake visit and lab work, continues with regular check-ins by video, and includes prescription medication only when it's medically appropriate for you.

The program is for adults who are physically in Florida. There's no membership: you pay for the visits you have, with Medicare accepted or a clear price without insurance.

What medical weight loss is

Weight is shaped by much more than willpower: genes, hormones, sleep, stress, age, other health conditions and some medications all play a part. Medical weight loss looks at all of it. A clinician reviews your history and labs, helps you build habits you can keep, treats related conditions, and, for some people, adds medication.

Losing some extra weight can make a real difference for conditions like high blood pressure, prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and joint pain. The aim is better health and everyday comfort, not just a number on the scale.

How the MD Care program works

  1. A full intake visit ($120). A longer first visit with a Florida-licensed clinician covering your health history, past attempts at weight loss, your medications, your goals and what daily life looks like.
  2. Lab work near you. If appropriate, your clinician orders labs at a Labcorp or Quest location close to home, often to check blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney and liver function, and thyroid. Your plan is built on those results, not a guess.
  3. A plan you can follow. Your clinician recommends a nutrition and activity plan that fits your life and your health, and talks with you about whether medication makes sense.
  4. Medication, if prescribed. If medication is right for you, your clinician explains how it works, what side effects to watch for, and how it will be adjusted. Medication is shipped directly to your door and billed separately.
  5. Check-ins ($50). Regular video check-ins track how you're feeling, how you're eating and moving, any side effects, and whether your plan or dose should change.

If you're also an MD Care primary care patient, your weight-loss plan and your other care are coordinated, so medications for blood pressure or diabetes can be adjusted as things change.

Where GLP-1 medication fits in

GLP-1 medications act on the body's own appetite and fullness signals, so many people feel full sooner and think about food less. For some adults they can be a real help. But they aren't right for everyone.

  • Not everyone is a candidate. Your clinician decides what's medically appropriate after reviewing your health history and labs. Some personal or family histories, such as certain thyroid cancers or past pancreatitis, mean GLP-1 medication isn't an option.
  • Medication is one tool, not the plan. It works best alongside regular activity and enough protein.
  • Side effects are common at first, mostly digestive: nausea, fullness, constipation or diarrhea. Your clinician follows them closely at check-ins.
  • Individual results vary.

What you can do at home

  • Make protein a priority at every meal. Eggs, Greek yogurt, fish, chicken, beans and tofu help you feel full and protect muscle while you lose weight. Your clinician can suggest a target that suits you.
  • Add strength exercise. Resistance bands, light weights, or standing up from a chair several times in a row all count. Muscle helps you stay strong as the weight comes off.
  • Walk most days, at a pace that feels comfortable.
  • Drink enough fluids, especially if you take medication that lowers your appetite.
  • Sleep and stress matter. Both affect hunger and cravings.
  • Track what's useful, whether that's your weight, your steps or how your clothes fit, and bring it to check-ins.

Aim for steady, not fast. A gradual pace is easier to keep up, and easier on your body.

When to get in-person or emergency care

Contact your clinician promptly, or seek in-person care, if you:

  • Can't keep fluids down, or feel dizzy or lightheaded
  • Have severe or lasting stomach pain, with or without vomiting
  • Have signs of low blood sugar, such as shakiness, sweating or confusion, especially if you also take diabetes medication
  • Notice a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing or persistent hoarseness

Call 911 for chest pain, trouble breathing, fainting, or any symptom that feels life-threatening.

How is medication delivered?

If medication is prescribed, it's shipped directly to your door and billed separately from your visits.

How much weight will I lose?

Individual results vary. Your clinician helps you set a goal that makes sense for your health, and tracks strength, energy and related conditions along with weight.

Can I join if I'm over 65?
